FOR THE LOVE OF CINEMA

This short documentary was directed and produced by the first-time director Ali Manaz. I video edited and transcripted this piece, which is about a 100-year-old open-air cinema on the island of Samos in Greece. The Vamvakas family who runs Cinema Rex has an enormous history, living through times of hardship, the occupation of Greece by Axis powers, the heydays of Greek cinema and the recent economic crisis. The family still provides quality films to their fellow villagers despite the changing face of the industry. Their passion for cinema is the driving force for the family to survive in this precarious business.
